August Thoughts:
Is it just me or does August bring quite a few emotions? It’s fun and festivities; it’s making the most of the last days of summer. But there’s also a feeling of nostalgia and sadness as the season winds down and thoughts turn to chilly nights and establishing routines. I suppose August is bittersweet. It’s somehow heavy and light at the same time, and creates a feeling that exists few other seasons of the year. How about you?

YAKIMA RIVER CANYON
The Yakima River Canyon is a popular destination for all types of fun on the water, from paddling and floating to fishing, whether you wade or drift. Along the way, you’ll likely be treated to sights of abundant wildlife, from big horn sheep, mule deer and elk to more than 21 species of raptors, countless songbirds and even bobcats and river otters.
YAKIMA RIVER FLY FISHING
The Yakima River is Washington’s only blue ribbon trout stream, making it a haven for Pacific Northwest fly fishing. In fact, it was recently named one of the top three fly fishing rivers in the U.S. in the USA Today 2024 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. The best time to catch fish on the Yakima is May through end of August, so now’s the time to schedule your fishing adventure.
FLOAT, PADDLE AND CRUISE THE YAKIMA RIVER
For those who prefer floating to fishing, the Yakima River provides a perfect, leisurely trip downstream whether on raft, tube or paddle board, with the dramatic canyon cliffs rising on both sides of the river. Many people love to put in at Umtanum Recreation Area for a float. Plan to get out at Roza Recreation Area boat launch and have a vehicle waiting there. The float takes about 3 1/2 hours, perfect for a leisurely summer afternoon.

Prosser Beer & Whiskey Festival is Back!
The Prosser Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Port of Benton and Tour Prosser are excited have this favorite event again! The festival is Saturday, August 24 from 5pm-9pm at the Prosser Wine and Food Park on Lee Road. A selection of regional breweries and distilleries are scheduled to be on-hand providing attendees a variety to taste. Live music with all-time favorite The American Honey Band, plus food vendors, and a cigar lounge to complement the beer and spirits available. Tickets start at just $40 for General Admission which include entrance from 5pm-9pm, logo glass, and three tokens. The $80 VIP ticket includes an extra hour of VIP exclusive tasting from 4pm-5pm as well as an event logo glass, eight tokens, and access to the VIP lounge featuring specialty bites and cocktails from The Prosser House by John Gray. Limited VIP tickets are available and are expected to sell out!
