September Thoughts:
Voltaire said “wine is the divine juice of September.” This seems to have a little more meaning to those of us living in wine country than to most. We see and smell the beauty of vineyards ready for harvest, and we know the simple joy of sipping & soaking up the moments when the sun begins to hit the earth a bit more gently. So don’t forget to cherish what we have here in this part of the state, and grab a bottle from a local winery this month!

Innovative New Products for Smart Homes

At a recent tile & stone tradeshow in Atlanta (Coverings 2024), the noticeable theme was the balance between man-made and machine-made. Earthy, organic, artisanal design is still the hot trend, even as tech…specifically AI…is reshaping our daily lives. One cool innovation is Smart Kitchen by Spanish tile manufacturer Porcelanosa Group. This tech conceals induction plates and electricity sources underneath the countertop, freeing up the surface for limitless uses! A homeowner can put a blender on their seamless countertop and the appliance will operate without needing to be plugged in! It can also generate heat under pots and pans without an induction cooktop, thanks to the product’s dual-induction system hidden under the sintered stone surface. It allows for workspace flexibility and easier cleaning. The company notes it is most popular in smaller kitchens with limited counterspace. Here in the states where we typically prefer an expansive kitchen, this technology may not have mass appeal yet…but who knows?! I think we could all get used to a kitchen where any surface could do anything we need.
